  • How do I transfer files between devices using Bluetooth?

BlackBerry-to-BlackBerry Bluetooth transfer. Generally, you need to be within a range of roughly 30 feet of another Bluetooth-enabled device to connect.
    1) Enable Bluetooth Connectivity for Both handhelds

From the BlackBerry icon screen, click Manage Connections and check the box next to Bluetooth.

    Figure 4: Bluetooth

    2) Make the BlackBerry Devices Discoverable

    • Click Options on the handhelds' icon screens, and then select Bluetooth. From there, click your BlackBerry Menu key and again click Options.
    • Then set the Discoverable option to "Yes" and exit the menu by hitting Escape—the key directly to the right of the trackball on 8800 series devices. Don't forget to click "Yes" when a dialog box asks you if you want to save the changes.
    • Go to the BlackBerry icon screen and once again select Manage Connections. Then scroll all the way down to the Bluetooth Options menu item and click it.
    • Click your BlackBerry Menu key again and select Add Device. The BlackBerry will then search for Bluetooth devices in range. After it has found one, it will show the name of the device and ask you to confirm that it's the correct one by clicking on the device's name.

After you have followed this process for both handhelds, insert a numeric passkey to access the handhelds. The default passkey is "0000" unless you have changed it. The default code is four zeros.
After the connection is finished you will see a dialog box on both handhelds that says "Pairing Complete". The handheld you wish to connect to will appear in your list of Paired Devices. This list displays when you click Bluetooth Options inside the Manage Connections icon.

    4) Set Devices to "Trust" Each Other

Select the handheld you want to transfer files from your list of Paired Devices—within your Bluetooth Options. Then click on your BlackBerry Menu key, and set the trusted field to "Yes". You have to do this for both devices. If you want to do a one-time transfer, you should return to this menu when you are finished and reset the field to either Prompt or No.

    5) Transfer File

    • Using the handheld that you want to receive the transferred file, click Media on the icon screen.
    • Then select Music, Videos, Pictures, Ring Tones or Voice Notes, depending on what type of file you wish to send.
    • Hit your BlackBerry Menu key while inside the media type folder and choose Receive Using Bluetooth.  The Waiting for Connection box will then appear.
    • Pick up the handheld you want to use to send the file, and click Media on its icon screen.
    • Again, choose what media type you wish to send—Videos, Voice Notes, Pictures, etc.—and then highlight the specific file. Click your BlackBerry Menu button, choose Send Using Bluetooth and the file is transferred.

  • I keep losing call logs and messages. What's the problem?

The first step to identifying this issue is to check the File Free on your handheld.  You can do this one of two ways.

    1. Options > Status > file free
    2. Hold ALT+SHIFT+H

The file free shows how much memory is free.

How to Free Up Memory on your BlackBerry Smartphone

    1. Delete any applications on your device that you do not use.  To do this, from your BlackBerry home screen press the Menu key  (the one with the seven-dot RIM logo) then go to Options > Advanced Options > Applications
    2. Select the unused applications and press the Menu key and then select Delete.
    3. Reboot the handheld.
    4. If you choose to delete anything, your handheld will restart and yield a higher File Free
    5. Enable Content Compression: Go to Options > Security and enabled Content Compression,    this will free some space.
    6. Delete the “Help” Application: Once you get the hang of your BlackBerry you don’t really need this application. Go to Options --> Applications, select Help and delete it.
    7. Delete the Sample Video: Go to Options > Advanced Options > Applications.  Highlight BlackBerry Sample Video, press Menu and Delete
    8. Delete the Unused Languages: You have an option to remove them from the Application Loader screen.
    9. Delete Pictures: Delete any unwanted images or move them to your memory card.
    10. Clean Up Browser Cookies and Cache: Start the mobile browser.  Press the Menu key and select Options > Cache Operations. Clear History & Clear Cookies.

Be sure you have a memory card for your handheld, if not insert a memory card, store all those ringtones, videos and MP3s that would otherwise overload your device memory.

How to transfer files from your phone memory to your media card?

Plug  your phone on the Blackberry desktop manager, choose Media> Media manager.

  • I can't receive email. What might be the issue?

Your handheld is not receiving emails.  Pull first the battery out. (if the problem is solved, you will notice your email flying in as soon as the handheld reboots).  If that doesn't help, you may need to resend your service books.

Click on Help and then click Send Service Books.
You should receive confirmation messages on your handheld if it was successful.

  • I can't browse the internet. What can be the problem?

    My bowser is missing

The missing browser is a common issue that shows up more often than you think, after activating a new handheld or upgrading the OS.  There is a simple fix, but most users do not know where to start.

    • Ensure you have a BlackBerry data plan (you must have GPRS in capital letters on your right hand )
    • Make sure the icon is not hidden. Press the Menu key and select Show All , see if the icon is on the screen. If this does not work,
    • Go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table.  Press the Menu key and select Register Now.
    • Wait about 30 seconds and the icon will appear. Sometimes it may take longer depending on your service. If it does not show up after a while (10 minutes or so) try a battery pull.  After the restart it still does not appear, you may need to resend your service books as described above.

Cannot browse the web with the Blackberry

    1. Make sure your antenna signal shows GPRS (all caps)
    2. Open the browser, press Menu key, options > Cache operations, clear history, content cache, Pushed content, Cookie Cache then press Backspace. The browser memory will clear.
    3. If option 2 does not help, Go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table.  Press the Menu key and select Register Now.
  • How do I seperate SMS from Email messages?

Some users prefer to have separate inboxes for SMS/MMS messages & emails, while some prefer to have them all in one place.  To change this option is simple. In your Message go to Options > General Options and change SMS and Email Inboxes to separate.  This gives you an individual folder for your SMS/MMS and Email messages.

  • How can I perform a Handheld Wipe?

No software or connection to a computer is required to perform a Handheld Wipe. On your BlackBerry, simply go to Options > Security Options > General Settings > Click  menu key > WipeHandheld and follow the instructions on the display. It takes a few minutes, but the Handheld Wipe will conveniently take you back to the starting line and hopefully fix your problems. Keep in mind you'll have to re-add your PIN info and add back your BlackBerry Messenger, contacts and applications (if you chose to delete the applications).
